Drones. They're always in the news. And soon, thousands will be flying over our own skies.
But then, what's all the fuss about? Is this really the end of privacy? Or could they be useful? Or fun, even?
The media is always buzzing with hype and end of days scenarios. So I created a little art project to help people decide for themselves.
MR DRONES is a hoax site that lets you design, customise and buy your own super drone of tomorrow, today.
It's like Drones meets NikeID meets The Onion.
CUTTING EDGE 3D TECH
The app uses the latest in HTML5, WebGL and three.js which lets you customise your drone in 3D, right in your browser.

SUPER CUSTOMISABLE
You can choose a colour, paint, and write on your drone. You can even add detailed art by using the art template, which instantly 3D maps artwork onto your drone in real-time.

|
SEE IT ON YOUR STREET
Thanks to a GoogleStreetView mashup you can see your custom drone flying on any street in the world. Suddenly it all starts to feel very real.

PRESS
By making our 'drone-filled future' a reality today - it got lots of people thinking and talking about it:
I was also invited to exhibit at the Museum of the Moving Image in New York.
I collaborated with 13 of the world's best designers to create a follow up installation piece.
We used the MR DRONES app, to imagine the future Drones of New York.
There are some pretty fun ideas. Like the 'John Lennon Memorial Drone'. Check it out here: www.dronesofnewyork.com
Thanks for reading, Rajeev.
